Tool Plasma Nitriding

Tool Plasma Nitriding

Nitriding of Fe-Mn-Al alloys is carried out using a mixture of nitrogen/hydrogen (N₂/H₂) and atmospheric pressure plasma jet, and nitride compounds are generated on the metal surface after nitriding. In particular, the plasma nitrided Fe-Mn-Al alloys formed a mixed phase of Fe₄N and aluminum, while the pure metals generated their corresponding metal nitrides. In terms of hardness, the nitriding treatment resulted in a significant increase in surface hardness, with Fe-Mn-Al alloys reaching approximately 596 ± 6 HV0.025; Mn 1307 ± 9 HV0.025; Al 467 ± 4 HV0.025; and Fe 646 ± 5 HV0.025.
